To all that stop by to linger here now and then. I'm taking a blog vacation. Weddings, move, internet issues and the like are getting in the way at the moment. Hope to be back in a few weeks with smatterings here and there in the mean time if I can manage it. I'll miss your company and look forward to returning as soon as I can.

In a rather fancy part of town

where houses are tidy and proper

there are interesting things that adorn the yards

and this one is rather a show stopper

the victorian houses are many round here

their colors and details divine

but the pots in the front with their prickly plants

not exactly what you'd call refined

A big shout out to Doreen in Michigan for choosing our theme this week as CELEBRATE LIFE. This is my third week participating in the Friday photo group and I've already bent the rules a bit. This is not my town, but it is my extended family at their town and the celebration just could not be missed. So today I shot Swanville, MN which is my mother in laws home town. It's about the size of a postage stamp, but what pride they have. So enjoy their spirit while you view the pictures.

The day was warm and sunny

The children were ready and excited

All the ladies in town turned out

Even the government agencies showed up

Boys in uniform promoted their cause

The local band was fired up

Farmers everywhere would have been proud

It was Swanville's carnival parade
and the entire town turned out
as they have for over 100 years
and filled the front yards
three blocks long on both sides

It was affirming
richness is alive and well
in small town America
